The first rule of sustainability is to align with natural forces, or at least not try to defy them.
Sustainability is defined as taking care of the environment and not cutting all the wood or polluting all the rivers and oceans. If given the opportunity to begin a New World, I would hope the society would built around sustainability.
Sustainability will be an important characteristic in the New World because if the people from the Old World would of kept it clean, they did not have to leave. Then they could of stayed there longer and after all the resources have been used then they could of left to the New World. This way they can live longer because the resources would still be there after they have moved. If the community uses all the resources in no time then the whole society would have to move to a different planet if there are any other planets with the requirements that this society needs.
Additionally, it is important for a society to be built around sustainability in case there is a serious emergency they have extra materials. This way when there comes a natural disaster and people have kept extra materials in the world then the people can use the rest to rebuild their society and go on with their lives. If you look at some countries on this world you can see that they are in need of supplies. Maybe the new world can slow it down and not have the best of the best because sooner they realize that they needed the objects.
Without sustainability, the New World would have trouble because they would have to move planets if they keep doing what their old habit which was wasting materials or they can't rebuild their society because they would not have enough supplies.
As mentioned earlier, sustainability once claimed, ‘’The first rule of sustainability is to align with natural forces, or at least not try to defy them, (Paul Hawken)’’, meaning to come together and work together. Not to use all the materials that the environment has to offer.
I agree that sustainability is important since you need to balance it out. Your quote is interesting as it claims "to not defy nature". This blog also shows the results if this rule is not respected.
ReplyDeleteIf I were you I would elaborate on the rule. It sustainability always about balancing resources? Elaborate more on the topic and on it's results to the environment. Try picturing life without sustainability.
